Old Angle News

Looks like comfy neighborhood favorite The Old Angle might have some changes in the works.

When we first moved to the OC this was a regular stop for us, and their above average pub food and sport (with a European flair) focus was a nice draw. Well, our knowledge of the neighborhood and its offerings have expanded and I always felt the Angle didn’t necessarily keep up. A menu that was unique then is unchanged in 4 years, and even though they still make their own ketchup it’s hard to compete with Bar Cento. The Old Angle Nieghborhood 1873

Last night we went and there was a new specials menu along with the old standards, and we were informed there was a new chef. We had their lamb sliders with grilled onions and tzatziki and they were excellent — the meat was surprisingly well seasoned. I had a simple grilled chicken Caesar, the most boring dish ever, and I did note the chicken was actually tender. I’ve never had a grilled chicken Caesar salad where I could cut the meat with a fork. Ever.

Perhaps we’ll see some exciting new directions for the Angle — I don’t think you can compete one-on-one with Chef Sawyer down the street but mixing up the food a bit and maybe shifting some focus and having some events (more music? less music? more sports? less sports?) could bring the Angle back to OC prominence.
