Is Post-fact… Oh?

I heard an interview with Farhad Manjoo today, discussing his book True Enough: Learning To Live In A Post-Fact Society. This book echoes a lot of my thinking over the last six or seven years — it is human nature to want to hear opinions that agree with your own, and Farhad mentioned that research shows that the same applies to facts and information. With today’s media glut it’s easier than ever to shut out anything that could cause dissonance and we can all live in our own preferred echo chambers. He didn’t offer any solutions in the interview but I can only assume the answer is to try to challenge our assumptions and willfully open ourselves to as many channels and voices as we can.

So now I’m wondering if wanting to read this book is just me reinforcing my beliefs. Anyone know of a book whose thesis is that in our current info-society we’re the best informed, level-headed and reasonable people in all of human history?
