Charlie Don't Surf
I know he’s had a long and truly distinguished career, but I don’t think Robert Duvall will ever beat his 7 minute role in Apocalypse Now. Not just the classic lines, either… it’s really well written and, yes, awesome.

The man is keeping me down...
Today I was trying to copy the audio from a Youtube video for a song I could not find to buy anywhere. As this article points out, new laptops (like my Lenovo T61) are crippling their sound drivers so you cannot use the mix playing out your speakers as an input into a recording program. What a PITA.
There is some little hack/edit you can make in the driver install file that works for some…...

Phone Envy
I recently upgraded my phone to the Sprint/HTC Mogul 6800 (from the HTC 6700). This gave me Windows Mobile 6.0 which was more usable and stable, and the overall hardware package was a bit smaller and lacked the antenna… but no revolution.
Recently my buddy showed off his Sprint Instinct which looks like a skinny iPhone. I must say it was slick and helped a lot getting around a new city with...

Start tracking the weather forecast for one day as early as possible — and really care about whether it rains or not.
Weather.com has 10day forecast. I’ve already gone from maybe no rain, to no rain, to definitely rain. Not a fun game.

Symon’s season premiered last night. Never watched D:I much before but MS was enjoyable, even in voiceover. Didn’t know it was a half hour show — the end seemed very rushed.
Brown Pants
For the record, I thought the brown pants looked good — athletic without the dance-pants look of the Jags’ or Falcons’ black leotards. For people who complain that brown is an ugly color, I have two rebuttals:
check your closet, and
THIS IS FOOTBALL. I love our brown jerseys because ugly is what football is. The pants aren’t as ugly but brown is what we are. Sorry...

It’s one thing to rework a quote but is there any effing chance four of these words came from Cribbs’ mouth? When was the last time you heard a player say “storied”?

Looks like pickles, right?
But they aren’t. Yet.
Our favorite produce stand in the West Side Market, The Basketeria, has been stocking cucumbers for pickling for the last couple of months. The almost-Mrs. actual enjoys them unpickled and we’ve had a lot of these on hand and in salads this summer.
On the last visit I noticed the flowering plant next to them and inquired — turns out it’s...

Perhaps it’s odd, but the only cities I feel I’ve really… flâneured? …were when I was working in Europe. Between the three or four visits I walked a lot of Rotterdam, and I spent a great weekend walking around Aix-en-Provence.

Caught the Seth Rogan vehicle last weekend and… hilarious. I thought James Franco had officially become a semi-useless pretty boy (per the Spiderman series), but he’s just adorable here. Last year I caught up on Freaks And Geeks, Franco’s first major role, that ran for just a year back in ‘99. That show was GENIUS. Rush out and Netflix it if you haven’t seen it so you...

I believe it's called paraphenalia
Now I haven’t smoked in a while and I’m usually pretty torn on whether I really enjoy it or not… but I can tell you that when Silas busted this out this week on Weeds it made me… err… green… with envy. It’s probably the gadget freak in me but I immediately wanted it.

Go ahead and gild that lily, chef.
On the continent it's a "Martini Cocktail"
Dooce ran a post that reminded me of two things:
When I was in Italy I had the same thing happen, except I don’t find a glass of dry vermouth remotely palatable.
The new Martini & Rossi bottles are sexy, as are the new line of Rose’s Infusions. I want to get some of that new millennium packaging to snazz up the bar.
Seriously... these are stripper names, right?

Old Angle News
Looks like comfy neighborhood favorite The Old Angle might have some changes in the works.
When we first moved to the OC this was a regular stop for us, and their above average pub food and sport (with a European flair) focus was a nice draw. Well, our knowledge of the neighborhood and its offerings have expanded and I always felt the Angle didn’t necessarily keep up. A menu that was unique...

Freakshow Steve Ernst
I have a pal who had a great 70s show on ‘RUW back in the mid 90s, eventually titled Freakshow Steve Ernst. My roommate, the titular Steve, was all excited for the multiple references to him (or his family) in the program guide that semester. There was another show which self-described as “Ernsty fun”. Steve gathered a bunch of guides and mailed them to relatives.
I think...
Taphouse
The Tremont Taphouse has a sweet patio that was hopping Sunday morning, right down the street from the aforementioned Liminis theater. They also have a new non-MySpace website, looks slick.

Drove by this on Scranton on Saturday. They do up the front of the normally staid building Liminis is in with a huge FREAKSHOW banner with a circus-like atmosphere taking tickets out front. Pretty cool. No idea what goes on inside, though.

Got these things to try to whiten up the teeth a bit for when I get married. Cuz it turns out to take about a week, while getting in any kind of shape would’ve had to start about 6 months ago.
So my teeth have always been a decent feature (never had braces, even) but I’ve had significant yellowing over something like the last 5 years. Weird, perhaps, because I don’t drink...
It'll be alright... tonight.
Night Ranger blasting at Nick’s Diner. Haven’t been here in a while. Hoppin’ on the weekends, per usual… And menus updated in style and content.
I saw a movie down at Cinemark Valley View last night and drove back on the Canalway Ohio “Scenic” Byway. It has some stretches along parks and there are a couple neat looking neighborhoods in Newburgh Heights and Cuyahoga Heights… but there’s an incredible amount of industry along the path.
In the aforementioned communities there are a lot of blockish brick buildings...
